My Philosophy: I don’t have all the answers

 

What I do have is a belief in building a team that allows us to find the answers together. Building that team means empowering people with ownership, supporting them with mentorship and developing a collective creative identity not just based around one creative leader’s personality. And it also helps when you have free snacks and/or take said team to lunch and pick up the tab and/or show up with a box of fancy French pastries at least once a week. Maybe twice. Three times wouldn’t hurt.

 

My History: I do have a high pain tolerance

 

Over my career I’ve worked on Samsung, Verizon, Mastercard, GE and Pepsi. Which is to say, I like working on the biggest brands with the biggest challenges. Three reasons for that:

1) I am defiantly and maybe even unreasonably optimistic when it comes to seeing potential in situations
2) When brands have their backs against the wall and are in danger of becoming wallpaper, creativity is the only way out; they need us
3) These brands impact people’s lives on a daily basis, which means almost endless opportunities for creativity

Growing up in a conservative Christian cult, I wanted to be a preacher. Cue crisis of faith. I ended up moving to New York to be an actor. That led to doing comedy and writing my own one-man shows about my strange upbringing in a cult. I met cool people in comedy who also worked as copywriters. So I joined them. Advertising is the best cult I’ve been in (so far).
